And the Doodles Keep On Comin’…

Wow!  We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the arts & entertainment industries!  With the start of the Doodle auction coming up soon, it’s really gratifying to see the number of Doodles have increased dramatically.

I hope that the eBay Doodle auction does well this year, as well as the publicity surrounding this fundraiser.  I have been hard at work trying to get national media coverage of our event since I think it’s unusual and fun…a great way to see a different side to some of the celebrities/artists that we know.

If you haven’t checked it out…go to www.doodledayusa.org to see the current Doodles.  Our Doodle webmaster has added a new feature that allows a visitor to search for celebrity by name, making it much easier to find a specific person.

Doodle Requests

I just dropped some more doodle requests in the mail, and have my fingers crossed that the celebrities will choose to participate and send a doodle to us.  It would be GREAT to have doodles from The Today Show’s morning team.

I’m also hoping that Mikey Teutul from American Chopper will donate a doodle again this year.  I was the lucky winner of his doodle last year and it’s quite cute.

The Start of Doodlemania

This blog officially marks the start of 2008 “doodlemania” for the upcoming National Doodle Day fundraiser for Neurofibromatosis, Inc.

The Doodle committee is busy soliciting “doodles” from celebrities from all over the U.S., from different fields – entertainment, sports, publishing, art, and popular culture.  Then we auction the doodles on eBay in May, during National NF Awareness month.

So, what’s a doodle?  I’m sure everyone remembers sitting in school, idling drawing pictures while bored in class (my least favorite was math, so there were lots of doodles in the margins of my spiral notebook!)  Or, perhaps you’re someone who doodles while talking on the phone.  Doodles can be abstract or simple smiley faces.

Last year, we were fortunate to receive doodles from celebrities such as Donald Trump, Jay Leno, Gillian Anderson, Kate Capshaw Spielberg, John Grogan (author of Marley & Me), Henry Winkler, John Feinstein, and Senator Barack Obama.

We have already received some doodles and will post them to our web site (www.doodledayusa.org) as they are scanned.  Mark your calendars for the eBay auction – May 8-18, 2008.

Are there celebrities that you would like to see contribute a doodle?  Let us know!
