About

Neurofibromatosis, or NF, is a genetic disorder of the nervous system that causes tumors to grow throughout the body on and under the skin.  It is a highly variable and unpredictable disorder with varying symptoms from mild to death.  NF is directly linked to cancer, brain tumors, memory loss, learning disabilities, heart disease, blindness, deafness, orthopedic problems and other disorders affecting 100,000 Americans.  Its incidence is one in 3,500 births, and is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, and Huntington’s Disease combined.  This progressive disorder affects all races, all ethnic groups and both sexes equally; there currently is no cure.  Approximately half of all cases are the result of a spontaneous genetic mutation in a family with no history of neurofibromatosis

NF, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support those directly affected by Neurofibromatosis, their families, and the professionals who work with them.
